v Canfield Fair, 8 p.m.: Martina McBride and Scotty McCreery perform at the grandstand.

v Buhl Day, 9 a.m.: The tribute to the philanthropy of Frank and Julia Buhl begins with a memorial service at Oakwood Cemetery Chapel in Sharon, Pa., then parade at 9:30 on East State Street and Buhl Blvd. Entertainment at Buhl Park includes State Street Jazz, Wrangler Band, The Sensations and Shenango Valley Chorale. And there’s food, too.

YSU wind ensemble

Youngstown State University Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Stephen L. Gage, and with guest conductors Dr. Brandt Payne and graduate conducting intern Eric Bable, will open its fall 2012 season with an outdoor concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Warren Amphitheatre. Dana School of Music students Keith Petersen of Pittsburgh will serve as narrator on “Casey at the Bat” and Sierra McCorvey of Howland will sing Gershwin’s “Someone To Watch Over Me.”

The concert is free to the public. In case of inclement weather, the program will be in YSU’s Bliss Hall Room 2326.

Hair-raising event

Artist Gr °inne Bird of Kildare, Ireland, needs you to be part of her next work of art. Bird will have a “hair-raiser” to collect hair donations for her art. Participants — female or male, any hair length and color – are invited to a free professional salon cut during the hair-raiser. The hair will go to Bird, who will use it to create art for an exhibit in her Cleveland studio.
