Attendance still solid

Attendance still solid

Canfield

Fair attendance was up over last year’s totals for the fourth day in a row.

Timm Schreiber, board member, said Saturday’s attendance was 71,756 — 1,132 people more than the same day in 2011. The four-day total is 176,830.

Schreiber said a brief period of heavy rain slowed people coming through the gates, but by 6 p.m., the numbers began to rise again.

He said he expected Sunday to be another successful day because by noon, attendance already was ahead of last year.

Purple Cat fair winners

Clients of The Purple Cat in Youngstown took home dozens of ribbons from the fair.

Greg Boland, instructor at The Purple Cat, said clients are adults with developmental disabilities, and the vegetables and crafts entered in the fair were grown and sewn at the center.

He said they won 40 ribbons in the pumpkin and vegetable buildings and 16 ribbons in the arts-and-crafts and fine-arts buildings.

As a group, The Purple Cat had the highest number of points in the pumpkin building, he said.
