Comedy, opera, comic drama, dance and a musical highlight University Theater’s 2012-13 season, which opens Thursday with the student-directed Blackbox production “Dark Matters” in Spotlight Arena Theater.

Season subscriptions for adults are $40 and are available by calling the University Theater Box Office at 330-941-3105 or emailing performingarts@ysu.edu.

A season subscription represents a $30 savings over the per show individual ticket price.

Discounts are also available for members of the YSU Alumni Society, Penguin Club and Regional Chamber; YSU faculty and staff and retirees; and non-YSU students.

Most University Theater performances are free for YSU students.

“Our season subscription is one of the best entertainment values in the area with five plays, a musical, a dance concert, and an opera all for under $50,” said Dr. Scott Irelan, chair of the Department of Theater and Dance.

The 2012-13 season marks the 49th consecutive year of University Theater’s existence as a co-curricular theater producing agency on the YSU campus.

Co-curricular implies that the productions are linked to the education of students in the various academic programs of the university.

YSU is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Theatre.

NAST, founded in 1965, is an organization of schools, conservatories, colleges and universities, and has about 150 accredited institutional members.
