POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:
GIRARD
Aug. 24
Criminal trespassing: A boy told officers he saw someone enter the front porch to his residence in the 100 block of Crumlin Avenue. The would-be intruder reportedly fled after the boy turned on a light.
Aug. 25
Burglary: To a residence in the 300 block of Taylor Avenue, from which a Sony PlayStation 3 system and related games and accessories were stolen. The loss came to $940.
Theft: A Maple Avenue man reported the theft of a $200 in-dash compact-disc player from his car.
Aug. 26
Vandalism: Police found a vehicle in the 20 block of South State Street with 1-inch puncture marks in each of two tires.
Aug. 27
Attempted burglary: Someone tried to enter a studio in the 10 block of East Second Street and fled to a nearby vehicle when confronted.
Harassment: A South Davis Street woman reported ongoing problems with two neighbors she says use profanity toward her and file false police reports against her.
Attempted theft by deception: A Gary Avenue man told police someone called three times claiming to be his grandson and needing $1,900 via Western Union for bail money. The grandson was contacted and was unaware of such a situation, however.
Theft: A Gayla Lane woman reported an envelop containing $230 and a $45 personal check stolen from her car.
Harassment: A West Wilson Avenue woman said her boyfriend, during arguments, made such calls, including one in which he threatened to file a stolen-vehicle report regarding a motorcycle at her home.
Aug. 28
Theft/vandalism: Someone damaged a ballast regulator next to a set of railroad tracks near Interstate 80 and stole scrap metal.
Harassment: A St. Clair Avenue woman said a neighbor continually harasses her.
LIBERTY
Aug. 22
Arrest: Police responding to suspicious activity in the 300 block of Mansell Drive charged 18-year-old John R. Pinkerton, 321 Mansell, with obstructing official business after saying Pinkerton tried to push officers from his residence, then lied to hamper their investigation.
Breaking and entering: Someone stole two four-wheel vehicles from a garage in the 2000 block of Pleasant Valley Road.
Attempted fraud: A Monticello Boulevard woman told authorities a caller claimed she took out a $250 loan, failed to pay it back and now owed $505. The accuser lost no money, though, and police discovered via the Internet that the number had been used in previous scams, a report said.
Aug. 23
Criminal damaging: A concrete block was used to break two padlocks on a coin-operated vacuum-cleaner machine at Bud’s Car Wash, 3622 Belmont Ave.
Assault: A Mansell Drive man alleged a 17-year-old boy punched him several times in the mouth and nose, resulting in an injured tooth and upper lip, after the accuser asked the teen to leave.
Trespassing: A Townsend Avenue woman said a neighbor walked in and fled from her yard, despite “No trespassing” signs having been posted.
Aug. 24
Drugs: A traffic stop near Green Acres Drive resulted in 25-year-old Kelly A. Johnston’s arrest on charges of drug abuse and having no operator’s license. Johnston, of 3666 Rosedale Ave., Hubbard, had a small bag of suspected marijuana in her purse and a cigarette wrapper containing suspected marijuana, police said.
Drugs: Officers in the 200 block of Goldie Road arrested Christina Rupert, 32, of Massillon on charges of drug abuse and possession of drug-abuse instruments after saying a small bag of suspected marijuana as well as a large variety of contraband, including hypodermic needles and spoons, was found.
Burglary/criminal damaging: Someone shattered a front window before entering an apartment in the 4100 block of Monticello Boulevard. Also, two nearby vehicles were spray- painted.
Theft: Two sewer grates were stolen near James and Tuttle lanes.
Aug. 25
Criminal damaging: A Green Acres Drive man discovered someone had shot his residence. The bullet damaged a portion of siding and a living-room wall before being found on a couch, though no one was injured.
Arrest: Mark A. Burney Jr., 26, of 692 Delaware Ave., Youngstown, was arrested on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in court after officers pulled him over near Holly Drive.
Drugs: Police on state Route 193 pulled over 23-year-old Dominick J. Demarco, 1142 Liberty St., Girard, and charged him with drug abuse and possession of drug-abuse instruments when, they said, Demarco had a bag with two suspected marijuana cigarettes as well as a small bag of suspected marijuana and a digital scale in a backpack.
Arrest: Authorities stopped a vehicle near Gypsy Lane, where they took into custody 24-year-old Brandon L. Caulton, 879 Lansdowne Blvd., Youngstown, on a parole-violation count related to a kidnapping charge.
Aug. 26
Arrest: Police arrested 31-year-old Gary L. Weigle, 3144 Woodland Ave., Cortland, during a traffic stop near Tibbetts-Wick Road. Weigle was charged with driving under suspension.
Drugs: A traffic stop on Colonial Drive led to the arrest of 37-year-old Roger L. Fobes, 256 Bouquet St., Youngstown, on charges of drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia after police said a suspected crack-cocaine pipe and a suspected marijuana cigarette were found. Also taken into custody was Christopher E. Martin, 20, of 3022 Northgate Drive, Liberty, on a charge of failing to appear in court.
Breaking and entering: Two men reportedly cut a chain on a side door to a building in the 3000 block of Youngstown-Hubbard Road before taking a vehicle-diagnostic tool and two flashlights.
Menacing: A clerk with a Belmont Avenue gas station reported a man threatened to harm him after the worker refused to accept the return of a T-shirt the man had bought.
Assault: Police responded to a fight between two men at a Motor Inn Drive motel, where one of the combatants was found with blood near his eye and temple before reporting he had been punched multiple times in the face and head.
