Kiwanis to aid disease elimination

GIRARD

Barbara Smith, a member of Western Mahoning County Kiwanis Club and executive director of First Night Canfield, has been appointed Kiwanis Division 21 Eliminate chairwoman.

The global service project was formed to eliminate maternal neonatal tetanus, which kills one baby every nine minutes. Kiwanis has pledged $110 million by 2015. With UNICEF, they hope to eliminate this disease.

Ohio has the goal of raising $4.2 million by the end of 2014, which will save 2.3 million lives.

For information on the project or to donate, contact Smith at 210 E. Prospect, Girard, OH 44420, 330-502-1460 or email cfsmith99@yahoo.com. Donations should be made to Kiwanis International Foundation, which has a 501-C-3 status.

Smith also is available to speak to groups on this project.
