Police are trying to determine who robbed and shot a man on the city’s South Side just before midnight Thursday.

According to police reports, the 57-year-old man was walking down Williamson Avenue in the middle of the street when he was approached by three men each appearing to be about 25 years old.

The victim said one of the men pulled out a handgun, ordered him to lie on the ground and hand over all of his money. The victim complied and handed over $20.

After giving the three robbers the money, one of the assailants told the man to get up and start running. The man said he started running, then heard a gunshot and realized he had been shot in the lower extremities.

The wounded man ultimately lay down between the sidewalk and street where responding police officers found him a short time later. Witnesses in the area heard the gunshot and called police.

Police found one brass shell casing in the street where the shooting took place.

The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. There was no word on his condition late Friday.
