Teen male dies in Portage County traffic accident

NELSON TOWNSHIP — A 16-year-old Garrettsville boy died in a 4:03 p.m. two-car crash Tuesday on state Route 88 just north of the Nelson Circle and state Route 305 in western Portage County.

The boy, Nicholas D. Stock, was northbound on Route 88 when he lost control on wet pavement on a gradual left curve. His 1996 Toyota then slid and rotated as it went left of center, striking the front end of a southbound 2011 Ford pickup truck.

Nicholas, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries, according to the Ravenna Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Richard Bonner, 62, of Mantua, driver of the truck, suffered minor injuries that did not require immediate medical treatment.

Alcohol is not suspected to be involved. This was Portage County’s 11th fatal crash this year.
