YOUNGSTOWN

The 21st Annual Laying of the Roses, sponsored by Vietnam Veterans of America,SFlbwill be 1 p.m. Sunday at the Vietnam War Memorial on Central Square. A previous announcement on the event gave the wrong date.

The public, and especially those who lost loved ones or friends in the war, are encouraged to attend. After a ceremony that will include an invocation and playing of taps, a rose will be presented and placed at the foot of the memorial by family members or friends of each of the Mahoning County residents killed or missing in action while serving in the Vietnam War.

All veterans units are urged to participate in the event, which is cosponsored by American Legion Post 472, International Association of Workforce Professionals (IAWP) Youngstown Sub-Chapter, and AMVETS Post 44. For information, call Stanley Clingerman at 330-549-2509.

Dedication changed

Austintown

The dedication ceremony for the Falcon Mobile Medical Unit has been rescheduled due to the weather.

The ceremony, scheduled for today, has been moved to 10:30 a.m. Friday in the back parking lot of Austintown Middle School, 700 S. Raccoon Road.

Public hearing set

AUSTINTOWN

Mahoning County commissioners will conduct a Nov. 20 public hearing concerning the proposal to vacate a 3,500-foot vacant section of the Lanterman Road right of way on the site where Penn National Gaming Inc. plans to open a racino in 2014.

The hearing will take place at 10 a.m. at the Austintown Township Hall, 82 Ohltown Road, one hour after the commissioners visit the racino site on the east side of state Route 46 at Silica Road to examine the road right of way.

Harvest party

WARREN

The Warren Family Misson is hosting a harvest party for children up to age 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

There will be activities, games, food and candy for the children and a costume contest. The mission is also asking for candy donations for the event. Donations can be dropped off at the Family Mission’s location at 361 Elm Road NE.
