Playoffs?

Yes, we’re talking about playoffs. And as Jim Mora said in his now-infamous speech, “I just hope we can win a game.”

That’s the goal of high school football teams this time of year.

One game. One win that can fuel four more to the state championship.

Fitch (9-1) begins that path as the No. 8 team in Division I. Ending the regular season with a 49-7 beatdown of Cardinal Mooney, the Falcons gave head coach Phil Annarella his 200th career victory.

Now, they face the No. 4 team in Division I, St. Ignatius. The Wildcats surrendered their No. 1 ranking after last week’s 20-13 loss to St. Edward. The Eagles (10-0) assumed the top spot.

Pickerington North dropped from the Div. I top 10 after last week’s 13-10 loss to Grove City.

Brookfield (10-1) is ranked No. 6 in Division IV, garnering one first place vote. The Warriors first-round opponent, Ashtabula Edgewood, is 6-3.

After completing the first undefeated season in school history, Crestview ends the regular season at No. 5 in Division V. It hosts St. Thomas Aquinas (9-1). Ursuline received 25 points in the final regular season poll. Last week, it was No. 10 before a 16-14 loss to Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary.

Warren JFK moved up two spots to No. 8 after ending the season 9-1.

It faces Youngstown Christian at home in a local Division VI battle.
