Students studying early childhood education at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center visited the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh for a field trip that was both educational and fun.
The field trip was aimed at educating the students on how elements from the museum could be used for future lesson plans, field trips and classroom activities.
The juniors and seniors in the program were able to explore the museum’s four floors of interactive and educational exhibits, while observing how the children who were visiting the museum that day interacted with the exhibits and projects.
From making paper and learning silk screening to experiencing the gravity room and water play area, the museum offered the students a wealth of new ideas for their future classrooms.
Sara Dulaney of West Branch said the field trip was a great experience.
“We were able to experience the other kids that were there and see how they played in the museum,” she said.
The trip also served as a source of inspiration for the students.
“This gives me ideas for my classroom and the type of activities that we can make,” said Morgan Claypoole of Springfield.
Each year the Early Childhood Education program visits an area children’s museum to observe how children experience the exhibits and the influence these exhibits can have on their future classrooms.
