Joseph S. Ewanish of Youngstown was named 2012 Ukrainian Orthodox League Man of the Year as the recipient of the Very Rev. Protopresbyter Stephen Hallick-Holutiak Senior Recognition Award.

The announcement was made at the National UOL convention that took place in July in Allentown, Pa.

Ewanish has served as president for the last 15 years of the council at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1025 N. Belle Vista Ave. He has belonged to the church for 55 years and is involved in various church organizations.

The Rev. Volodymyr Bavata established the UOL with the intention to build a strong future for the Orthodox church.

Gospel presentation

Agape Assembly Church, 426 Nevada Ave. SW, will present “Dawn of the Dead 2012: “When Death Dies,” a Gospel presentation of worship, dance, spoken word and video for all ages at 8 p.m. today. The program will feature singers and performers from area churches and special guest speaker, Elder Christopher J. McKee of Christ Centered Church in Youngstown.

Child care will be provided. The event is free and open to the public.

The concert choir of Elizabeth Baptist Church, 1210 Himrod Ave., will record a DVD and CD at 5 p.m. Nov. 4 in celebration of its 100th year.

Christ Lutheran Church, 250 Sexton St., continues to celebrate its 90th anniversary with two programs on Sunday.

The worship service at 10:15 a.m. will feature the Boardman Brass Quintet and in honor of Reformation Day, a re-enactment of the Martin Luther dialogue with Father John Tetzel will be staged.

Guest speaker Tia Ciferno will bring her music ministry to Covenant Life Fellowship, 5900 W. Liberty St., at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 4.

Her theme verse is Psalm 63:7, “Because you are my Helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings.”

In-service day

The Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry of the Diocese of Youngstown invites Catholic adults, particularly those who work with middle school, high school and college-aged youths, to an in-service day Nov. 5 at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Canton. Discussion will focus on “Values for Modern Day Ministers and Disciples.”

Youth ministers, pastors, directors of religious education, campus ministers, retreat directors and volunteers will explore ways to overcome obstacles, reflect on one’s call to ministry and renew one’s prayer life as to better serve.

Cost for the day is $25 per person and includes lunch and supplies. Group discounts are available. The program can be applied toward four general certification hours. Gospel quartet

Golden Street Singers of Farmdale, Ohio, are hosting the jubilee and will perform.
