Several Market Street Elementary School teachers are headed to their classrooms with many more supplies, thanks to Walmart in Boardman.

The store awarded 20 teachers with $50 gift certificates to purchase school supplies for their students during an assembly Oct. 3. Some teachers were visibly moved and were ecstatic to receive the grant.

“It’s very rewarding and I greatly appreciate it. There are a lot of needs and teachers spend a lot of their own money and sometimes we need help. It’s nice to see that the community sees what we do and we do all of it because we simply love the kids. They are our future,” said second-grade teacher Theresa D’Angelo.

Walmart Personnel Manager Ronda Jerek and Assistant Manager Michelle Louchery randomly selected teacher’s names from a hat and were glad that they were able to support them with the donations. They applauded teachers for their dedication to students and education and thanked them for their efforts.

“Teachers spend a lot of their own money helping our children, so those who can’t afford certain things aren’t singled out. They are educating our future leaders and we appreciate that. Being able to give back is an awesome feeling. I’ve been with Walmart for 25 years and things like this make my job worthwhile,” said Jerek.
