Shepherd of the Valley honored local community members and organizations for their volunteerism during the facility’s eighth annual Valley Legacy Awards at the Avion on the Water Oct. 11.

“We think the Legacy Awards are important because there are so many people that have done so much and no one is saying thank you. It’s just inspirational and positive. With all the things that are happening these days, something like this can give you faith and I think for me in doing this over the years, it has been very enriching. You find out what things people do and I just feel honored,” said Lynn Miller, corporate marketing director.

The event focused on individuals from all walks of life, who have used their talents from dancing to sewing to impact the lives of others. Some nominees were simply thankful to be nominated and were happy to give back. Retired nurse Anna Grhim felt giving back to others was her responsibility and urged others to do the same.

“I feel honored that my granddaughter nominated me. I’ve just always seemed to help others. If I’m able to do it, then I’ll do it. We were all put here for a purpose and I feel like helping others is mine. You look around and see you’ve been blessed and if you have, then I believe you should share with others,” Grhim said.
