Police: Pa. guard super-sized his job for food

CARNEGIE, Pa. (AP) — A former security guard will stand trial on charges that he super-sized his law enforcement credentials by pretending to be a cop so he could get free food from a Pittsburgh-area McDonald’s that offers the perk to real on-duty officers.

The attorney for 55-year-old Charles Lester Jones, of Carnegie, denies his client impersonated an officer. Atty. Phil DiLucente says he can’t understand how the Scott Township restaurant clerk could remember Jones’ alleged law enforcement claims, but not what he ordered.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports the clerk testified at a preliminary hearing Thursday that Jones demanded the food on three occasions. The clerk says Jones flashed a badge but claimed he had given all of his business cards away to judges when she doubted his credentials.

She wrote down his license plate number and contacted police in August.
