Rootstown High won its first district championship, claiming the Division III Kent District on the Golden Flashes’ home field. Rootstown will take on Gates Mills Hawken in a regional semifinal. Junior captain Maggie Durbak scored three goals for the Rovers.Kelly Robinson made two saves in net for Champion (12-5-2), which lost its second straight tournament game. The Golden Flashes advanced to play Rootstown only after Bristol, which beat Champion 1-0 in overtime on Monday, was forced to forfeit after playing an ineligible player.

Kennedy Catholic 6, Corry 3

HERMITAGE, PA.

Monica Riggle had a big day cashing in four times. In the first half, the scoring opened with a goal by Tawney Godfrey assisted by Anna Benson. Riggle and Benson scored for a 3-0 lead, Autumn Jarvie getting an assist. Corry charged back with two goals by Bri Sulecki. One was assisted by Katie Zimmerman. Riggle scoring three goals in the second half. One was assisted by Hennessy Zolnier. Zimmerman scored for Corry. Goalkeeper Emily Benedict stopped 13 of 19 shots for Corry while Shelby McElhinny and Stacy Goclano combined for 11 saves for Kennedy Catholic (7-10).
