Market Street Elementary School staff, students, neighbors and friends enjoyed an evening of fun during the school’s tailgate party Sept. 28.
“It’s a great tradition and it’s good for the school spirit. We’ve always have a really good atmosphere here. We love to stress that we have a team here within the PTA, and the principal is really good at embracing us,” said tailgate coordinator and PTA President Lisa Anzevino.
The annual event brought students and their families together for a wholesome and fun experience. While parents bid on 50/50 raffles, students took advantage of the open fields and played games like football and kickball. Some parents were excited to volunteer and spend quality time with their children while meeting new people.
“I really enjoy it. It helps my daughter and I mingle with the community and allows her to meet new friends. I’m happy that I can volunteer,” Tawinka Sloan said.
There were a variety of activities to choose from, including face paintings and contests. Boardman Glenwood Middle School cheerleaders also volunteered their time and taught some students a few of their cheers.
“We came here to help and to do our halftime routine. We also came out here to have fun with the little kids and show them good things that they can do when they get our age. It feels good know that the younger kids look up to us and it means a lot to me,” said Boardman Glenwood Middle School cheerleader Savannah Samford.
