The Cavaliers have signed Youngstown native and former Cleveland State guard D’Aundray Brown to a contract on Thursday.

Terms of the contract were not announced.

“You guys know D’Aundray,” Cavs coach Byron Scott said of the 2007 graduate of Ursuline High. “We’ve had him in our gym a bunch of times. We love the way he plays.

“He plays hard, good defensive player. And obviously, if he’s not here with us, we probably have the opportunity to put him on our Canton D-League team and watch him grow.

“Just a kid we’ve been interested in, just watch him for the last six or seven months playing against our guys in the summer. We really kind of like him.”

Asked what he liked about Brown, Scott said, “Defends, tough, makes shots. I think that’s enough.”

Brown, 24, played in 115 games (91 starts) at Cleveland State, averaging 7.8 points on .487 shooting, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals in 28.4 minutes per game.

As a senior last season, the 6-foot-4, 195-pounder played in 26 games (25 starts) and averaged 10.8 points on .457 shooting to go along with 4.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.5 steals in 29.7 minutes per game.

Brown was not available for comment Thursday.

Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving missed practice after having four wisdom teeth pulled.

Irving, the NBA’s rookie of the year last season, had the oral surgery on Wednesday.

The Cavs said he will return “when cleared to do so in relation to his continued recovery process.”

Irving is expected to be back in time to get in some practice time before the Cavaliers open the season at home on Tuesday night against Washington.
