Boys soccer defeats Canton McKinley

The Boardman High School boys soccer team defeated Canton McKinley 7-0 in the first round of the district tournament on Oct. 17. Senior Nico DiIani led all scorers with two goals, while seniors Mark D’Eramo, Alan Olson, Danny Gotham and Nick Mancini each added a goal. Freshman Andrew Gable rounded out the scoring with a goal. Assists were credited to Gable, as well as senior Pete Ryan and junior Fabio Bassil. Senior Anthony Calautti had two saves as the goalkeeper for the Spartans.

Girls soccer players honored

Boardman High School girls soccer players will be recognized at the Youngstown District Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association Awards Banquet. Sara Strawinski, Nikki Hillard, Jenna Kuczek, and Alison Green will be named to the Division I All-District First Team.

The All-County (Mahoning) First Team will name Sara Strawinski and Nikki Hillard to its ranks, while Jenna Kuczek will receive an All-County (Mahoning) Honorable Mention.

The individual Senior Academic Award will be given to Nicole Deley and the Team Sportsmanship Award will be given to the team. Sara Strawinski, Nicole Deley and SueJude Hamdan were also nominated to play in the Senior All-Star Game.

BGMS volleyball stops Berry

Boardman Glenwood’s seventh-grade volleyball team defeated P. Ross Berry 25-22 and 25-12 to improve its record to 8-8. Briawna Santiago led with five aces, followed by Madison Soles with two aces.

The eighth-grade team also defeated P. Ross Berry 25-17 and 26-14 to improve to 5-11. Leading with two aces was Taylor Halowell, while Nico Martino and an assist.
