NEW CASTLE, PA.

Four city police officers have returned to duty now that a district attorney has determined they were justified in shooting an armed man earlier this month.

That man, 43-year-old Ivy Lanthier Jr., remains in critical condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, where he’s been since the incident Oct. 12 in the city.

The four officers who shot at Lanthier returned to regular duty after Joshua Lamancusa, the Lawrence County district attorney, announced earlier this week the shooting was justified.

Lanthier is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful restraint and other crimes for reportedly holding his daughter’s boyfriend at gunpoint and firing shots into the ceiling of his house before he stepped into the doorway with guns drawn at police.
