Cleveland Indians settle suit over Pa. man's death

CLEVELAND (AP) — The widow of a Pennsylvania man killed when an inflatable slide fell on him at a Cleveland Indians game has settled her lawsuit against the team.

The team’s attorney isn’t saying how much it will pay to the woman, who also sued the maker of the slide and the company that operated it.

The Plain Dealer newspaper in Cleveland reports a judge last week ordered the slide operator to pay $3.5 million to Kimberly Johnson of Greensburg, Pa.

Her husband died in June 2010, nine days after the slide collapsed.

State inspectors say the slide’s owner wasn’t safely operating it.

An attorney representing the Indians says the operator was to blame, but adds they settled because of the loss suffered by the family and the unpredictable nature of trials.
