Woman dies in Columbus apartment fire
COLUMBUS (AP) — Fire officials have identified a 65-year-old woman who was killed in an overnight apartment fire.
The Columbus Division of Fire said Gweneth Puckett died in the blaze early today on the southeast side of the city. Firefighters responded to the call about 2 a.m.
The apartment had a smoke detector, but officials don’t know if it was working. A resident of the apartment next door called 911 because the smoke detector was going off there.
The cause of the fire, which started in the kitchen area, is under investigation. There was about $5,000 damage to the apartment.
