Canfield

Mill Creek MetroParks will be conducting the second of two public hearings regarding the oil and gas industry and its potential effect on Mill Creek MetroParks from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McMahon Hall, Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, state Route 46, directly across from the Canfield Fairgrounds.

This hearing will include presentations by state Rep. Robert Hagan; the Guardians of Mill Creek Park, featuring Dr. Ted Voneida, neurobiologist, who will speak on the health effects of shale gas hydrofracturing; and Dr. Ray Beiersdorfer, professor of geological and environmental sciences at Youngstown State University.

Those attending will be asked to sign in before speaking and observe a set of ground rules when they speak. There will be approximately one hour for public comments. The public is invited.

MLK’s niece to speak at church

BOARDMAN

Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday on the theme “How can the Dream Survive?” at St. Charles Church, 7345 Westview Drive. The event is free. Refreshments will be provided.

Bullet found in school trophy case

Vienna

A Mathews High School custodian found a bullet lodged in a trophy case in the school hallway.

The custodian discovered the bullet Tuesday morning.

Although when the bullet was fired hasn’t been determined, evidence indicates that it didn’t happen Tuesday and no lockdown occurred.

Vienna police are investigating.
