Victim of multiple gunshot wounds dies

YOUNGSTOWN

A man who suffered several gunshot wounds last week died over the weekend, becoming the city’s 22nd homicide victim this year.

Mark S. Haskins, 57, of Norwood Avenue, was found with several gunshot wounds about 11:50 a.m. Wednesday in front of a house on the southwest corner of the intersection of Bissell and Kensington avenues on the North Side. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he died.

Haskins was unresponsive when police arrived, but was revived by paramedics, according to reports.

Police said they had been told a vehicle drove near the house, the shooter got out, fired at the victim and returned to the vehicle, which Haskins described as a green truck. Haskins told officers he did not know who shot him, records state.

Police recovered eight shell casings in the front lawn.

Dispatch records show the call originally came in as a fight, but before the dispatcher could broadcast the call to officers, it changed to a shooting.

Haskins had two outstanding warrants from Youngstown police for failing to appear in court on charges of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension.

The 57-year-old man was not the only homicide victim this year with the last name of Haskins. In March, 25-year-old Tito Haskins was found shot to death in the 500 block of East Boston Avenue on the South Side. It is unclear what, if any, relation there is between the two men. No arrests have been made in Tito Haskins’ murder.

At this time last year, the city had recorded 18 homicides.
