A free public discussion about the Affordable Care Act, commonly called Obamacare, will take place from noon to 1 p.m. today and next Tuesday in Room 1105 of Cushwa Hall on the Youngstown State University campus.

The discussion will be among students, faculty and staff from the university as well as members of the public.

Kansas governor to visit the Valley

YOUNGSTOWN

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback campaigns today for the Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan Republican presidential/vice-presidential ticket in five Northeast Ohio cities, including Youngstown and Warren.

Brownback, a Republican, will urge people to vote early and discuss differences between the GOP and Democratic presidential candidates as part of the “Commit to Mitt Early Vote Express Tour.”

Brownback will be outside the Mahoning County Board of Elections, Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave., at 8 a.m. He then will stop outside the Trumbull County Board of Elections, 2947 Youngstown Road in Warren, at 9:30 a.m.

Later in the day, Brownback will campaign for Romney in Ravenna, Akron and Jefferson.

Assisted-living facility opening

Windsor House Inc., local owners and operators of 11 nursing homes and four assisted living communities in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, is having a public grand opening of Champion Estates, its newest Trumbull County assisted-living facility.

The event is Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Refreshments and tours will be offered.

Champion Estates Assisted Living is at 1 Windsor Place off Mahoning and Champion avenues. The facility has 56 apartments furnished with microwave ovens and refrigerators and will create 30 jobs.

County health board to meet

Mahoning County District Board of Health will have its regular meeting at 8 a.m. Wednesday at 50 Westchester Drive.
