POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Oct. 17

Burglary: To a residence in the 6900 block of New Castle Road through the front door, though police found no signs of forced entry. Stolen was a four-wheel vehicle.

Oct. 18

Theft: Nicole M. Valenti, 32, of 709 Hazen St., New Castle, Pa., was charged with stealing eight DVDs from Giant Eagle, 3130 Center Road.

BOARDMAN

Oct. 16

Theft: A Forest Park Drive man accused a neighbor of taking his $150 cellphone.

Theft: A leaf blower was removed from a storage cage belonging to American Beauty Landscaping, 5415 South Ave.

Menacing: A woman told officers a woman in a car threatened her with harm while the accuser was in her Truesdale Road front yard. The threat apparently was regarding a loose dog.

Burglary: Brandon M. Bell, 19, of 54 Prestwick Drive, Boardman, was taken into custody in a Hillman Way apartment on a burglary warrant. He was accused of breaking into a Homestead Drive residence and taking a 19-inch TV and several other items.

Theft: Authorities picked up 26-year-old Latoya S. Blackmon at the Trumbull County jail on a felony theft charge. Blackmon, of 229 Bonnie Brae Ave. SE, Warren, was accused of stealing more than $1,000 worth of clothing from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.

Identity fraud: A West Boulevard man discovered five aliases were attached to his Social Security number.

Burglary: To a home in the 8000 block of Sigle Lane via a side door. About $2,000 worth of copper piping was removed from the basement.

Theft: A cellphone and numerous prescription medications were taken from an apartment in the 3900 block of South Schenley Avenue.

Theft: A woman reported he wallet stolen while shopping at a Doral Drive store.

Harassment: A Paxton Road man said his former girlfriend has made more than 15 such calls to him daily.

Theft: Police charged 26-year-old Katie M. Grist, 1888 E. South Range Road, North Lima, with stealing $364 worth of children’s clothing from Kohl’s.

Criminal mischief: Someone in the 300 block of Boardman-Poland Road used a key to damage a portion of a vehicle’s finish, then left two tea bags with a derogatory note on the windshield.

Harassment: An Erskine Avenue woman said another woman has continually made unwanted calls to her.

Theft: A woman stole a $154 pair of jeans from La Ti Da Boutique, 850 E. Western Reserve Road.

Menacing: A Bonnie Place woman reported a male caller claiming to be a police officer asked why she was selling drugs online, as part of a pattern of harassment.

Oct. 17

Breaking and entering: Someone pried open the front door to a building in the 5200 block of Market Street before stealing $300 and a digital camera.

Burglary: Matthew J. Chachko, 32, of 6420 Tara Drive, Poland, was arrested on a burglary warrant during a traffic stop near the Southern Park Mall. Earlier, a neighbor returned from vacation and noticed a damaged door frame after someone had tried to enter his residence, police said.

Stolen property: Youngstown police handed 31-year-old Ciara L. Bussard to township authorities. Bussard, of 7544 Market St., Boardman, faced one felony count each of receiving stolen property and forgery after a man in the same set of apartment complexes discovered his $149 money order had been stolen from an office there.

Theft: A woman in her 30s stole a $30 pair of shoes from Payless Shoesource, 48 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A wallet and several credit and debit cards were taken from a car in the 6500 block of Market Street.

Attempted burglary: A Wolosyn Circle man reported having heard footsteps on his roof, then seeing a man in a black hooded sweat shirt jump from the roof into a yard and flee.

Theft: Victoria M. Lewis, 19, of 412 Ferndale Ave., Youngstown, was charged in the theft of $400 worth of clothing from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall. Lewis, who also was wanted on a warrant charging her with another theft, faced an additional charge of resisting arrest when, police said, she failed to cooperate and provide relevant personal information.

Attempted theft/menacing: A worker for Burlington Coat Factory, 529 Boardman-Canfield Road, reported a woman who tried to steal merchandise also threatened to harm her.

Vehicle theft: A 2008 Suzuki motorcycle was stolen from a garage in the 40 block of Gertrude Avenue.

Theft: A woman discovered her purse missing from a shopping cart while at a Doral Drive store.

Possible theft: A cellphone was lost or stolen in the 6000 block of Applecrest Court.

Arrest: A traffic stop on Market Street resulted in the arrest of William M. Rose, 22 Gertrude Ave., Boardman. The 27-year-old Rose was wanted on a warrant from Geauga County charging him with failure to appear in court.

Identity theft: A Mathews Road woman learned that two unauthorized purchases totaling $159 had been made to her debit account.

Theft: Robert M. Sudimak, 45, of 189 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown, was accused of stealing seven jerseys from Kohl’s. Sudimak also was wanted on a warrant from Austintown accusing him of failing to appear in court to face a separate theft charge.

Robbery: Anthony D. Elder, 42, of 2768 Bainbridge St., Austintown, faced a robbery charge after $376 worth of merchandise was stolen from Giant Eagle, 1201 Doral Drive. Elder also shoved an employee while trying to flee, a report said.

Theft: A Youngstown man reported the theft of medications while at a Boardman-Canfield Road restaurant.

Menacing: An employee with a West Boulevard pizzeria said a woman threatened him and his wife.

Theft: Richard L. Wilson III, 21, of 6485 Diana Drive, Poland, was charged in the theft of $134 worth of clothing from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.

Oct. 18

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a residence in the 5900 block of Youngstown-Poland Road through a patio door and stole copper piping from the basement.

Theft: A $1,200 mason saw was taken from a home in the 5500 block of Sharon Road.

Theft: A woman in her 30s stole 12 household items from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Theft: A woman reported her purse stolen at a Doral Drive grocery store.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 20 block of Carter Circle was found with two smashed windows. Damage was estimated at $500.

Theft: Police charged 44-year-old Martin L. Stewart with theft after accusing Stewart, of 737 Lake Drive, Youngstown, of stealing a $328 home-theater system from Walmart.

Misuse of credit cards: A woman reported two of her cards stolen at Southern Park Mall, then discovered they were used to make a $1,800 purchase at a township big-box store.

Theft: A Youngstown boy, 17, was charged with taking $8 worth of merchandise from Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.

Oct. 19

Arrest: Nicholas A. Martin of 43940 state Route 558, Columbiana, was taken into custody on Market Street and charged with operating a vehicle impaired.
