Certification award

George H. Denney, court administrator for Youngstown Municipal Court, has earned national court manager certification.

The certification award was presented at the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center in Columbus during a graduation ceremony this month. Denney was in a class of 37 Ohioans receiving certification after completing a three-year program available through the Institute for Court Management of the National Center for State Courts and the Ohio Supreme Court Judicial College.

Nearly 200 Ohio court professionals have earned the national certification since 2002.

Denney, a 1984 graduate of Youngstown State University, is a lifelong Youngstown resident who worked as a newspaper reporter for 16 years before beginning a career with the courts.

Environmental award

State Rep. Robert F. Hagan of Youngstown, D-60th, was named a recipient of the 2012 Environmental Achievement Award by the Ohio Environmental Council, an honor given to one legislator in each chamber for a strong record of protecting Ohio’s natural resources.

Hagan has been an advocate for environmental protections by voting for protecting natural resources, expanding and promoting alternative energies, and championing conservation policies and smart land-use laws. He has served on the Ohio House Committee on Environment and Brownfield Redevelopment and has been active in the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators.

Hagan will accept his award at the Ohio Environmental Council’s 2012 Green Gala on Nov. 10 in Columbus.
