The veteran mayor of a northwest Ohio city has resigned.

Maumee Mayor Timothy Wagener announced his plans Friday, ending a 13-year run leading the Lucas County city of about 14,000 residents.

In a letter of resignation, Wagner cited “a number of personal reasons, mainly my health and that of my wife.” The 55-year-old Wagener suffered a stroke in 2010.

The Toledo Blade reports Wagner received a reprimand from the Ohio Ethics Commission earlier this year for comingling personal and office funds. He was also alleged to have obtained a list of retiring city employees and their spouses for use in his private insurance work.

He easily won re-election in November despite the claims.

Under the city’s charter, City Council President Richard Carr is elevated to the position of acting mayor.
