Symphony chief receives honor

GREENVILLE, Pa.

Judy Eckler of Greenville, president of the Greenville Symphony Society, received the 2012 Dominion Volunteer In The Arts award in an Oct. 12 event at the Pittsburgh convention center. The award honors those who give their time and talents to ensure that the arts thrive. Eckler has been president of the GSS for five years and is credited with updating its programming. She has been producer of the Greenville Area Community Theatre for the past 20 years.

Choral concert at St. Columba

YOUNGSTOWN

The Dana School of Music will present a fall choral concert titled “Singing from the Heart in Time of Change” at 8 p.m. Monday at St. Columba Cathedral.

The concert will feature the YSU Dana Chorale, Women’s Chorus and University Chorus, accompanied by Kathy Miller and Diane Yazvac, guest instrumentalists, and several soloists from the Dana School of Music.

Suzanne Bort Gray exhibit at gallery

“Art and the Art of Mentoring,” an exhibition of art by Suzanne Bort Gray that pays homage to her mentor, Al Bright, opens today at Eastwood Mall Outreach Gallery and runs through Nov. 11.

Gray is an award-winning visual artist whose paintings, photographs, digital images and fiber arts hang in public and private collections across the United States and abroad. She teaches painting at the Davis Family YMCA in Boardman and at many assisted living and residential care centers.

An opening reception will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
