The Boardman Rotary Club welcomed more than 6,000 people to its 36th annual Oktober Fest at Boardman Park Sept. 30.

The event included many activities for everyone of all ages. More than 150 vendors also sold a variety of merchandise from homemade gourmet foods to flower arrangements. Some participants not only enjoyed the festivities of the event, but embraced the chance to spend time outdoors.

“I enjoy the outdoors and it’s just a fun time to get together with your family and I enjoy the a day at the park,” said Kim Penman.

Though the event was full of family-oriented activities, the proceeds raised allow the Boardman Rotary the opportunity to help several non-profit organizations throughout the community, including Easter Seals, Needle’s Eye, the YWCA and several other programs.

“It’s our largest fundraiser and it gives us the ability to give back to groups who are doing so much. It takes ever single member to pull an event like this off. We have about 150 vendors, including everything from lawn ornaments to jewelry. We have just about a little bit of everything. It’s our way to give back to the community that we live in,” said co-chair Shannon Tirone.
