Ohio teen says older man kept close watch on him in Craigslist trial

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio teen has been heard on tape saying he had been “ordered” to dig a grave for a man allegedly killed as part of a deadly scheme to lure victims with phony Craigslist job offers.

Testimony resumed today.

Suspect Brogan Rafferty has been charged with killing three men along with his mentor, 53-year-old Richard Beasley. A fourth victim was shot and injured but escaped.

The 17-year-year-old Rafferty is also heard telling investigators in a tape played in court Thursday in Akron that Beasley closely watched him following the first man’s death.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports that Rafferty contends that at one point, Beasley reminded the teen that he knew where his mother and sister lived.

Rafferty could face life in prison if convicted of the attacks.
