Canfield runners compete


On Sept. 25, the Canfield cross country team hosted the Suburban League Championships at the Canfield Fairgrounds with a total of 37 high schools and 26 middle schools competing.

The Canfield varsity boys finished second in the team standings. Scoring for Canfield were Rollin Bresson (fourth), Alec Kennedy (seventh), Tyler Kennedy (13th), Chase Kern (15th), Bryan Kristan (27th), Mack Mettile (48th) and Rajan Solanki (54th).

A total of 296 runners finished the race. The top five teams were Boardman (51), Canfield (66), McDonald (73), Howland (77) and Austintown (98).

The Canfield girls finished seventh in the team standings. Scoring for Canfield were Emma Lunne (first), Jamie Watt (20th), Rachel Rosteck (30th), Anna Luongo (44th), Jenny McClune (46th), Victoria Bosze (58th) and Hannah Nischwitz (70th). A total of 233 runners finished the race.

While only the top seven finishers from each team score points, many runners improved on their personal-best time for the 3.1 mile distance. Setting personal records (PR’s) were Rollin Bresson, Tyler Kennedy, Bryan Kristan, Timmy Fernstrom, Emma Lunne, Rachel Rostek, Victoria Bosze, Brittany Bettile and Isabelle Moyer.

The Canfield Village Middle School boys team finished 15th in the team standings. Scoring for the middle school were Victor Stefanides (second), Tyler Napolitano (62nd), Ben Walker (85th), Jordan Audia (97th), Alexander Plant (102nd), Kyle Huston (119th), and Drake Safranic (121st). A total of 218 runners finished the race.

The top five teams were Maplewood (78), Howland (117), Lakeview (129), Ursuline (166) and West Branch (183).

The middle school girls team finished fourth in the team standings. Scoring for the middle school were Anita Mancini (seventh), Raquel Markulin (ninth), Marissa Cashbaugh (40th), Cara DeChurch (45th), Emerson Fletcher (44th), Clarise Rosteck (45th) and Zoe Cavoulas (49th).
