Salvation Army extends assistance-application dates

The Salvation Army’s Mahoning County office, 1501 Glenwood Ave., has extended its application dates for 2012 Christmas assistance.

The extensions are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Every person interested in applying to the program must bring a current photo ID for themselves or any other adult in the household, proof of all children in the form of birth certificates, proof of income and proof of bills.

For proof of income, participants may bring any of these applicable documents: pay stubs within the past 10 days; Ohio Department of Job and Family Services printout within the past 30 days; child-support papers; SSI/SSD letters; workers’ compensation statements; rent subsidy or utility allowance stubs.

For proof of bills, participants may bring these documents: lease or mortgage papers, utilities, car payments, insurance, child care or any other bills.

Social Security cards for adults and children in the household will also be used for verification purposes.

Children must be 12 or younger at Christmas to be eligible for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree.

Participants can sign up with only one agency or church for Christmas assistance. If a participant’s name is found on any other lists, their application will not be accepted, the Salvation Army said in its press release.
