Pa. highway reopens after tons of chicken spill
PORTERSVILLE, Pa.
A western Pennsylvania highway has reopened after a tractor-trailer crash caused 37,000 pounds of processed chicken to spill onto the road.
State police in New Castle say the truck crashed shortly before 5 a.m. on U.S. Route 422 near McConnells Mill State Park.
That’s about 35 miles north of Pittsburgh.
The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for more than three hours while crews cleaned up the poultry.
No injuries have been reported.
Police have yet to say who was driving the truck or who owned the vehicle — or the tons of chicken inside it.
It was not clear immediately what caused the crash.
Woman reports giving birth on Philly subway train
PHILADELPHIA
It was a very unusual delivery on a Philadelphia subway line.
Police say a woman riding the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s Broad Street line told officers she gave birth aboard a northbound train Tuesday afternoon.
KYW-TV reports transit police Officer Loyd Rodgers and his partner gave the stork a helping hand after the woman approached them at the Olney station. Nestled in her clothing was her baby boy, umbilical cord still attached.
Rodgers wrapped the newborn in a blanket and called for medics.
He says all activity in the busy subway station halted as riders snapped pictures and congratulated the new mom.
Mother and baby are doing fine at a hospital. The new mom’s name wasn’t released.
Police find toy knight stolen from W. Pa. shop
BEAVER, Pa.
Police say they’ve found a 4-foot tall toy knight statue that was stolen from outside a western Pennsylvania toy store and that the three young men responsible might face charges.
The knight was kidnapped from the sidewalk in front of Castle Toys and Games in Beaver on Monday afternoon. Acting on a tip, police say they found it in an apartment in nearby Chippewa Township.
Police say the men thought the theft was a good idea at the time, but now are reconsidering and hoping to do some community service to make amends. Police have yet to identify the men.
The Playmobil figurine is worth about $1,000, though store owner Linda Lyden says it’s priceless to customers who like to have their picture taken with it.
