Report-card data

Columbus

More preliminary state report-card data will be released this morning. An Ohio Department of Education spokesman, who said Monday that the data would be released Tuesday afternoon, said Tuesday that it instead would be released today.

The data include school district and building designation, attendance information and performance index scores but still will be preliminary. The state auditor’s office is conducting an audit of school attendance records, and ODE opted not to release final report cards until that audit is completed.

Gunman robs motel

LIBERTY

Police are investigating a Tuesday morning armed robbery at a township motel.

According to police, a white gunman in his mid- to late 20s wearing a brown, hooded sweat shirt and a blue bandanna across his face walked into the Quality Inn & Suites, 4055 Belmont Ave., about 1:10 a.m. with a plastic bag and demanded money from the desk clerk. The robber also had on latex gloves, and the left glove was partially torn, police said.

The clerk was refilling coffee pots before returning to the front desk, where the gunman demanded he fill the bag with only paper currency. Before fleeing on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, the gunman twice apologized to the clerk, saying he needed the money because his daughter needs a bone-marrow transplant, the report said. The robbery was caught on surveillance camera.
