Jury finds Ohio teen guilty of murdering stepfather

HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) — A jury has found an Ohio teen guilty of murder for fatally stabbing his stepfather on Father’s Day.

A Butler County prosecutor’s spokesman says the jury today found 18-year-old Michael Ray guilty in the stabbing death of 36-year-old Bryan Schmidt. Prosecutors said Schmidt was stabbed at the family’s home in St. Clair Township just north of Hamilton on June 17.

Ray told the jury he killed Schmidt in self-defense. Ray’s mother testified that her husband was attacking her son.

The Hamilton JournalNews reported Ray said he and his stepfather argued over Ray drinking alcohol while the rest of the family was away. Ray said he panicked and grabbed the knife and stabbed his stepfather after Schmidt punched him several times.

There was no answer to calls to Ray’s attorney.
