youngstown Police probe 4 armed robberies

Police are investigating four weekend armed robberies including one at a Subway restaurant on Mahoning Avenue.
A female employee at the Subway restaurant in the 3200 block of Mahoning told police she was behind the counter kneeling just before 9 p.m. Friday when she heard someone come through the door. What the 26-year-old woman saw when she looked up left her terrified.
The woman told police she saw a fair-skinned black male in a brown hooded sweat shirt with the hood over his head, dark shades covering his eyes and a purple bandanna covering his face. The masked man was carrying a handgun and made his intentions clear.
“Come open it up or I will shoot it up,” was all the masked man said.
The employee ran to the back of the store to alert the only other employee working that the store was being robbed. Both women ran out of a back door and called police.
Police arrived a short time later and determined that nothing had been taken. The store has video- surveillance equipment police can review.
Police responded Saturday to a call at a bar on North Garland Avenue where a 38-year-old man was pistol-whipped and shot at.
According to police, the man left the bar with another man just before 10 p.m. and was then accosted by another man and shoved into a car. The victim said the second man pulled out a gun and demanded money.
The victim said he was pistol-whipped after telling the armed man he did not have any money. He ultimately handed the man $40 and was released from the car. He said one of the men involved in the robbery shot at him as they drove away.
Police have not made any arrest in that robbery.
A city man told police he was robbed Friday afternoon by two men and a woman who had been hanging out at his home playing pool for the past several days.
The man said the trio of would-be thieves took him to Walmart in Liberty Township to cash a check, but upon returning to the city, both men pulled out handguns and demanded money.
The victim handed over $600 and was forced to get out of the car on Oakhill Avenue.
Police have not located the three people involved in the robbery.
A 17-year-old boy told police he was beaten and robbed of $21 while walking down Oakhill Avenue about 5 p.m. Friday.
The boy said that as he was walking, two males hit him in the head with a bottle from behind, then began to beat him. He said he bit one of the males, possibly severing part of his attacker’s finger.
The boy said the men bit him back and continued to punch him all over his body before taking the $21 and running off.
Police contacted the boy’s mother, who took him to Akron Children’s Hospital for treatment.
