Shooting investigated

WARREN

Police continue to investigate an incident at just after midnight Saturday in which a Warren patrolman saw a gun being fired in his direction while on patrol.

Police say they have leads and are continuing to investigate the incident, which took place while the patrolman was in his car on Fourth Street Southwest near Highland Avenue.

The officer saw someone firing several shots from a “long gun,” police said. They conducted a thorough search just afterward but did not locate a suspect.

Architecture talk

Ron Ramsey of North Dakota State University will give a talk, “American Gothic: the Architecture of William Halsey Wood,” at 6 p.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave.

Wood’s firm produced drawings for more than 40 churches and parish houses including St. John’s in the late 1890s.

Dinner will be served. A $3 per person donation is requested.

Weathersfield Township trustees will have a work session at 6 p.m. today to discuss the township administrator’s position. Dave Pugh, the township’s current administrator, retires Dec. 31.

Jackson Township trustees will have a 7:30 p.m. meeting today at the township Government Center, 10163 Mahoning Ave.

Berlin Lake Association

DEERFIELD

Berlin Lake Association will have its fall meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Deerfield Town Hall, 1450 state Route 14.

The meeting will include a short personal history of Berlin Lake, an overview by the Army Corps of Engineers and local issues on the November ballot as well as drawings for two prizes.

Tickets for the drawings will be available before the meeting.

Candidates-night forum

The 7th Ward Citizens Coalition will host a candidates-night forum at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Faith Community Covenant Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd.

There will be no presentations of any ballot issues.

Candidates for the contested races have been invited to participate. Those races are 13th District Congress; Ohio House of Representatives, 59th District; Mahoning County commissioner, Jan. 3 term; Mahoning County Recorder; 7th District Court of Appeals; and Mahoning County Court judgeship, Jan. 1 term.

Refreshments will be served after the program.

‘Equity in the Valley’

Angela Glover Blackwell, founder and CEO of the national research and action institute PolicyLink, speaks on “Equity in the Valley: A Call to Action” from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the D.D. and Velma Davis Education and Visitor Center, 123 McKinley Ave.

The event is sponsored by The Raymond John Wean Foundation.

Blackwell is known as an inspirational and motivating speaker for individuals and organizations pursuing economic and social equity.

Her presentation will be followed by a panel of local civic leaders and a question-and- answer period.
