Faye Hawk enjoyed a day of cool air and fishing with her son, Denny, on Lake Marina for the first time in years on Sept. 13.

Faye, who is 91 and a resident at the Poland Shepherd of the Valley, was able to experience such a special day as part of “Second Wind Dreams,” which is an organization that grants the wishes of seniors in long-term care. She always had fond memories of fishing with her family and wanted another chance to relive those days.

“I used to go fishing with my husband and my children when they were little. I’m glad that my son, Denny, came fishing with me today because he’s always made things so much more interesting and fun,” said Faye.

The Lake Marina also provided lunch and SOV gave Faye a basket full of fishing-inspired gifts. Although the day was a special event for Faye, it was also a day of fulfillment for Activities Director Paula Blakeman, who was just happy to experience such a joyous occasion.

“It makes me feel wonderful. I love these dreams and I can’t explain what it feels like to see the residents’ faces. It’s so much emotion that it feels like your heart just jumps right out of out of your chest. It makes me so happy,” Blakeman said.
