POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Oct. 3

Drugs: Police charged a 17-year-old Poland boy with possession of drug paraphernalia after officers said they seized a metal device commonly used to grind marijuana, papers often used to roll marijuana, two suspected marijuana pipes and other contraband.

Oct. 4

Identity theft: A Highland Avenue woman reported her credit card had been used to make an unauthorized $276 purchase at a Southern Park Mall store.

Oct. 5

Theft/criminal damaging: Metal scrap and two tires were stolen in the 7100 block of Clovermeade Drive. Also, a vehicle was damaged.

Oct. 6

Identity theft: A Struthers Road woman noticed an unauthorized $34 charge to her checking account.

BOARDMAN

Oct. 5

Domestic violence: Police charged Sandra L. Cercone, 51, of 4534 Euclid Blvd., Boardman, with the crime after her daughter alleged Cercone had tossed her out of the way, causing minor injuries to her arms, as Cercone tried to enter a room to search for missing medications.

Forgery: A forged prescription document for a medication was presented at Walgreen’s Pharmacy, 525 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Auto theft: A man reported his girlfriend’s 2000 Ford Explorer stolen in the 400 block of McClurg Road.

Theft: Officers picked up 49-year-old Gina M. Rachella in Youngstown on a felony theft warrant after a township woman alleged Rachella, of 633 Forestridge Drive, Boardman, had used her 2011 Subaru Forester vehicle without permission.

Menacing: An Applecrest Court woman noticed someone had slipped under her door an unwanted note containing sexual innuendo.

Theft: A Brainard Drive man told officers someone in Brooklyn, N.Y., made a $1,000 fraudulent charge to his debit account.

Aggravated menacing/domestic violence: A domestic-violence charge was pending against a man after an Applecrest Court woman alleged he had tried to hit her. The man also threatened to shoot the apartment complex, a report showed.

Theft: Roughly $300 worth of scrap metal was taken from a rear lot at DFK Fabrications Inc., 637 Bev Road.

Oct. 6

Domestic violence: Police charged 48-year-old Michael G. Kluchar, 6440 Tara Drive, Boardman, after his former wife alleged Kluchar had struck her forehead during an argument.

Theft: A man reported a laptop computer, a Sony PlayStation 3 system and miscellaneous clothing stolen from an apartment in the 900 block of Cook Avenue.

Theft: A woman shopping at a Doral Drive store discovered $80 missing from her purse.

Menacing: A Moyer Avenue woman told officers a man sent her text messages containing implied threats, causing the woman to fear for her safety.

Theft: A Spring Garden Court woman discovered $4,000 and a $1,500 certificate of deposit missing from her home.

Domestic violence: Authorities arrested 42-year-old David A. Firman Jr. of Weirton, W.Va., on a felony charge after a Washington Boulevard woman alleged Firman had tossed and struck with a beer can the back of her head, then poured beer over her head during an argument regarding his drinking.

Theft: A man reported the theft of his cellphone while in the 7700 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Arrest: Karone S. Rivers, 33, faced a charge of illegal processing of drug documents, a fourth-degree felony. Rivers, of 327 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown, was accused of trying to pick up a counterfeit prescription at a nearby Walgreens Pharmacy, 525 E. Midlothian.

Oct. 7

Domestic violence: Angelo B. Ostavitz, 22, of 1691 Fountain Square Drive, Austintown, surrendered on a charge of making domestic-violence threats after a Mathews Road woman reported having received such phone and text messages.

Vandalism: A $400 smoke detector was damaged in a room at a South Avenue motel.

Criminal mischief: A Tippecanoe Road woman said someone removed two flowers from a landscaped area and tossed them on her driveway.

Arrest: David G. Smart, 41, of Columbus was taken into custody at a Tiffany Boulevard motel on felony warrants from Franklin County charging him with passing bad checks and possession of dangerous drugs. Also, police cited 34-year-old Anthony J. Beard of Columbus on a charge of disorderly conduct while intoxicated.

Assault: A woman in the 2000 block of Wolosyn Circle reported another woman punched the left side of her face. The other woman said she had been struck first.

Oct. 8

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a former car lot in the 200 block of Boardman-Poland Road, destroyed portions of drywall and stole copper piping.

Criminal damaging: A key was used to damage a car’s finish in the 7700 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Aggravated menacing: An Indian Trail girl and her father reported a caller had threatened to shoot the teen and her boyfriend. The call originated in New York, police said.

Domestic violence: Police charged a Poland girl, 14, with the crime after her mother alleged the girl had twice punched her upper left thigh during an argument related to discipline issues. The teen admitted having struck her mother, police said.

Theft/vandalism: Three tires and wheels were removed from a car at Donnell Ford, 7955 Market St. In addition, other vehicles on the lot were found with stolen tires and broken windows.

Harassment: A Mathews Road woman reported getting such calls and text messages.

Menacing: A Willow Drive man told officers he received secondhand information that another man had threatened to kill him.

Auto theft: A 1981 Pontiac Bonneville was stolen in the 7400 block of South Avenue.

Theft: Two people stole an undetermined quantity of merchandise from Dollar General, 5953 South Ave.

Breaking and entering: Two people in hooded sweat shirts, including a man in his mid-20s, entered Smoker Friendly, 4927 Market St., through a rear door, then took about 30 cartons of cigarettes.

Oct. 9

Theft: A Weirton, W.Va., woman reported her Social Security card stolen from a Lemans Drive apartment.

Vehicle thefts: A 1998 Jeep Cherokee and a 2009 Ford F-150 truck were missing from a lot at Donnell Ford.

Theft: A Portsmouth, Ohio, woman discovered about $20,000 stolen from a refrigerator her late father, of Wildwood Drive, had used to hide the money.

Theft: A South Schenley Avenue man reported the theft of $100 and a set of keys.

Bad check: A West Boulevard man told authorities he had received a $3,970 payment for a camper he listed for sale online before learning the check was counterfeit.
