New adoption trend
WARREN
Trumbull County Probate Judge Thomas A. Swift recently spoke on the future of guardianship at the Kentucky Guardianship Association Conference.
Judge Swift described the programs he has initiated in Trumbull County and compared the Ohio and Kentucky guardianship laws. The topic has become more relevant because of a change in Ohio law that permits Ohio probate judges to appoint non-Ohio residents as guardians for Ohio residents.
“Now, the state line alone does not disqualify an individual to serve as guardian of person,” Swift said. “This change ... will help families in long-term-care planning, especially for older adults.”
