Boardman boys soccer has winning record

The Boardman High School boys soccer team now stands at 6-4-3 on the season with a 2-2-1 record in the Federal League. BHS played at Canton GlenOak on Oct. 2 in league action. Senior Raul Bosca scored the lone goal off a free kick in the 6-1 loss. Senior Anthony Calautti made five saves as the goalkeeper.

On Oct. 6, senior Nico DiIanni registered three goals in Boardman’s 4-0 victory at Champion. Junior Luke Marsco rounded out the scoring with assists being credited to Marsco and junior Alex Thomas. Calautti had three saves as goalie.

The junior varsity team defeated GlenOak 1-0 with sophomore Anthony Pallante scoring the lone goal in the match. Sophomore Brian Fryda logged six saves as goalkeeper. At Champion, BHS gave up a late goal to finish in a 1-1 draw with the Flashes. Nick Mancini scored for BHS, while Fryda had four saves in the goal.

Boardman volleyball takes Austintown

The varsity Boardman volleyball team defeated Austintown 25-15, 25-7, 25-20 on Oct. 6. The leading server was Megan Volosin with five aces. Leading attacker, Lauren Davila, had eight kills, while leading setter, Faith Saunders, placed 30 assists. Leading defender, Katie Seeco, had three digs and leading blocker, Lauren Davila, had a total of three blocks. The junior varsity team also defeated Austintown 26-24, 24-26, 26-24.

Match against Lakeview rescheduled

The Boardman boys soccer game against undefeated Lakeview on Sept. 6 was suspended with the Bulldogs holding a 2-0 lead near the end of the first half. The game will resume today at 3 p.m.

BGMS sweeps YCS

Boardman Glenwood’s seventh-grade volleyball team defeated Youngstown Christian 23-25, 25-14, and 25-17 to improve to 6-5 on the year. Madison Soles had three aces and Riley Zawrotuk had one assist. The eighth-grade team defeated Youngstown Christian 25-17 and 25-15 to improve to 3-8 on the season. Faith Clear led with six aces and Emily Hurl led with kills.

BGMS volleyball loses to AMS

Boardman Glenwood’s seventh-grade volleyball team fell to Austintown Middle School Red 25-20 and 25-10 to make their season record 6-6. Team leaders were Ashley Clark and Zoe Sims. Boardman Glenwood’s eighth-grade team also lost to AMS Red 25-17 and 25-15 to make them 3-9 on the year. The leading scorer was Charlotte Voytko and defensive leader was Taylor Halowell.

Youngstown Orthopaedic Saturday sports clinic

Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates’ Saturday sports clinics, geared specifically to fall sports student-athletes in need of immediate attention to sports injuries, is running. The clinics run from 9-11 a.m. every Saturday throughout the high school sports season.

These clinics are open to players involved in football, volleyball, soccer, golf and other high school and college sports. They are held at the practice’s Building A at the northwest corner of Tippecanoe Road and Boardman-Canfield Road in Canfield. More information is available at www.youngstownortho.com.
