The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Southington Post is investigating fatal car crashes Wednesday evening and early Thursday, one of them involving a Youngstown man who crashed after a Trumbull County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop him for erratic driving.
Timothy J. Webb, 61, of 175 Halleck St., was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Health Center after he crashed into a guardrail at state Route 305 and Warner Road in Hartford at 5:57 p.m. Wednesday.
The vehicle, a 1990 Geo Prism, traveling south, went through the stop sign and into a guardrail on the south side of the intersection. The car came to rest after traveling down an embankment, the highway patrol said.
A report from the Trumbull County sheriff’s office, said Deputy Matt McBride first observed Webb’s car on Everett Hull Road traveling in the wrong lane.
Webb’s car went in and out of a ditch, then it was in the wrong lane, causing the deputy to swerve to avoid the car.
The vehicle proceeded erratically, nearly hitting several cars traveling in both directions and then speeding up as it approached state Route 305.
The deputy said he backed off as Webb’s car approached the Warner Road/state Route 305 intersection because there were two other cars at the intersection.
Web’s vehicle didn’t appear to slow down at the intersection and nearly hit one of the other cars before going airborne and crashing into the guardrail, McBride said.
Seven hours later, at 1:30 a.m., Thursday, Alisha E. Miranda, 23, of Andover was was eastbound on Route 5 in Johnston when she failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the right side of the road, striking a tree.
The car then caught fire and was fully engulfed in flames. Miranda was pronounced dead at the scene.
