Speaker set for faith program

“The Year of Faith: Catechists and Teachers as Agents of the New Evangelization” is the theme for the Evangelization and Catechesis Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at St. Michael Family Life Center, 300 N. Broad St. Sponsor is the Diocese of Youngstown Office of Religious Education.
Sister Judy Gomilla, keynote speaker, will present “The Power of One” and offer workshops on “Spiritual Fitness in the Year of Faith” and “One Anothering.”
Local presenters also will offer workshops on fair trade, bullying prevention, sacraments, political responsibility and catechetical methods.
Sister Judy, a native of New Orleans, is a Marianite Sister of Holy Cross. She is a consultant to the National Education Council of the Pontifical Mission Societies in New York and as the executive assistant for Mission for the Black and Indian Mission Office in Washington, D.C.
Exhibitors include Catholic publishers, religious goods stores, diocesan offices and the Work of Human Hands fair trade. The fair trade products are handmade by artisans or grown by farmers living in developing regions around the world.
The $30 registration fee includes lunch, morning refreshments and parking. Registration is $25 by Wednesday.
Participants are eligible for up to five hours of religious education certification credit. Catholic schoolteachers employed by the diocese may be eligible to earn professional development credit for State of Ohio certification.
