Dozens of local artists showed off their creativity during a craft show at Austintown Township Park Sept. 16. The event featured only hand-made products and proceeds benefitted the park.

“There is culture here and [the craft show] gives people in Austintown an incentive to make things and get creative. It’s good for any community to get involved with the arts because it’s so good for peoples’ moral. I decided to donate the proceeds to the park because I didn’t want to keep all the money. It just makes me feel better. It isn’t about the money in artwork, it’s about the satisfaction,” said event coordinator Celesta Moran.

The event only included vendors from Austintown, who were enthusiastic to share their craft with the community. Some artwork included acrylic painting, clothing and hand-made jewelry. Joanne Grossen, who sold hand-made soap, used the opportunity to meet and network with other local vendors.

“The program was nice today because it featured local businesses. I think it’s good to buy from local vendors and I would rather buy something that’s locally-made because usually the quality is better. I sold some of my merchandise and did a lot of networking with other vendors, and just had a good time. I bought other things from vendors and met a lot of Austintown neighbors and it was just a positive experience,” Grossen said.
