100-pound Colts beat rival ALF
The 100-pound Austintown Colts improved to a perfect 7-0 after defeating rival Austintown Little Falcons (2-5) 36-0 last weekend at Fitch Falcon Stadium.
ALF coach Steve Ellis gave credit to the Colts for a well-played game and expressed pride for his team.
“The Colts showed why they are undefeated, I am proud of our kids — they showed heart and played hard to the very end,” said Ellis.
The Colts took the lead with an early touchdown in the first quarter and pulled away from there. Donovan Oliver, Devon Winford and Devin Winford each scored touchdowns for the Colts, while CJ Schisler and David Shannon scored two-point conversions.
Cameron Smith, David Ashburn, Anthony Blott and Joseph Serensky were noted for strong play in the loss for the Falcons.
Battle of Austintown settled in overtime
The 120-pound Little Falcons and Colts needed overtime to settle things during last weekend’s “backyard” brawl at Fitch Falcon Stadium. After a scoreless four quarters, the Colts finally broke the stalemate, scoring in overtime to earn an 8-0 victory.
ALF coach Antonio Page was still upbeat in defeat,
“Every single kid on this team deserves credit — they all played their hearts out. They are winners; it just did not show on the scoreboard,” he said after the game.
With the win, the Colts improved to 6-1. The squad was led by Brian Ferguson, who scored the winning touchdown and two-point conversion.
Chase Gabrick, Christopher Scott, Cole Tolley, Donovan Jones, Daniel Newman, Todd Simons, Myles Pasley, Dylan Goddard, Chris Jordan, Dedric Dixon, Justin Stainfield, Alex Miller, Trae Wilks, Ryan Gordon, Logan Pugh and Christian Bermudez all played well in the loss for the Falcons.
ALF 140s edge rival Colts
The 140-pound Little Falcons (7-0) remained undefeated after beating the rival Austintown Colts 16-12.
The Colts led 6-0 at halftime on a 65-yard interception return by Tyrell Oliver. The Colts defense held the Falcons scoreless in the first half after multiple sacks in the backfield by Anthony Carino, Brock Kimble and Dakota Edwards.
But ALF scored twice in the second half, both on TD runs by Dra Rushton. Nathaniel Fowler tacked on both conversion scores. Those efforts gave ALF a 16-6 lead.
The Colts rallied with a second TD to get within 16-12, but the conversion was stopped by the Falcon defense. ALF’s Fowler also intercepted a pass to end the Colts’ last-chance drive and preserve the victory.
