POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
Sept. 27
Theft: James P. Deoerio, 66, of 40 Center Road, Struthers, was charged in the theft of about $73 worth of groceries from Giant Eagle, 3130 Center Road.
Auto theft: A 1987 Acura Integra was stolen in the 1700 block of Coit Road.
Sept. 28
Theft: Jeffrey J. Maldonado, 19, of 110 Garwood Drive, Canfield, surrendered on a felony theft warrant from Struthers Municipal Court.
Sept. 29
Criminal mischief: A portion of a driveway was vandalized in the 7200 block of Forest Hill Drive.
Oct. 1
Burglary: To a residence in the 5300 block of Clingan Trails via the garage. Stolen was a $400 power-washing device.
Identity theft: A Struthers Road man discovered $1,212 worth of unauthorized charges to his debit-card account.
BOARDMAN
Sept. 28
Harassment: A Carter Circle woman told police a former friend made 100 to 200 unwanted calls to her.
Counterfeit: A phony $20 bill was found at Sam’s Club, 6361 South Ave.
Burglary: To a vacant home in the 100 block of Argyle Avenue, from which about 121 feet of copper piping was taken from the basement.
Counterfeit: A man passed a fake travelers check at a Shell True North gas station, 8600 Glenwood Ave.
Robbery: Three women in their late 20s to early 30s grabbed an employee with Five Below in the Shops at Boardman Park and threw her to the ground after having stolen merchandise and before fleeing.
Theft: Fourteen Ohio Lottery tickets were stolen from the Havana House, 235 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Identity fraud: A Sugarcane Drive man told officers he received three cellphones in the mail that he never ordered. Apparently, someone had ordered the merchandise using the accuser’s name and address.
Theft: Three people stole a $549 cellphone from Verizon, 1320 Boardman-Poland Road.
Theft: Two Sony PlayStation 3 controllers were taken from Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road.
Arrest: Police responding to a disturbance at the Southern Park Mall cited 44-year-old Cheryl A. Phillips on a charge of obstructing official business. Phillips, of 208 W. Front St., Youngstown, refused to provide personal information to officers and hindered their investigation, they said.
Arrest: Police near West Boulevard took into custody 37-year-old Jai B. Price, 467 Norwood Ave., Youngstown. She was accused of stealing a $130 pair of wireless headphones from AT&T, 7125 Tiffany Blvd.
Arrest: Fletcher A. Indovina, 28, of 207 Boston Ave., New Castle, Pa., surrendered on felony charges of receiving stolen property and misuse of credit cards after a man discovered someone had used his credit card to make $6,000 worth of charges at Home Depot, 7001 Southern Blvd., without authorization.
Theft: Police charged Timothy A. Cutlip Jr. of Deerfield and Ernest F. Beachman III, 6110 Market St., Boardman, with theft and possession of criminal tools. The two 27-year-old men were accused of stealing a $70 set of headphones from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive, and using a pocket knife to cut open the package containing the item.
Sept. 29
Burglary: Took place in the 7600 block of East Parkside Drive through an unlocked side door. Stolen were two Xbox 306 systems, a car stereo, an amplifier, a subwoofer and an iPod device.
Harassment: A worker for a Southern Park Mall jewelry store said her former boyfriend sent two such text messages.
Criminal damaging: Someone in a vehicle tossed a water bottle and damaged the quarter panel to a passing car near Green Garden Drive.
Theft: A woman stole roughly $500 worth of clothing and shoes from the J.C. Penney store in the Southern Park Mall.
Theft: Police charged 33-year-old Melanie A. Paine, 29 Creed Circle, Campbell, with stealing $225 worth of miscellaneous clothing, makeup and other items from Target.
Theft: An Army bag, a $100 pair of shoes, clothing and a cellphone charger were taken from a car in the 900 block of Moyer Avenue.
Arrest: Danny K. Slepski, 50, of 152 Mathews Road, Boardman, was picked up on East Western Reserve Road. Struthers authorities accused Slepski of failing to appear in court.
Criminal mischief: A Southern Boulevard man said someone had intentionally loosened the oil cap to his lawn mower.
Theft: Two nail guns and an air compressor were stolen from a construction site in the 1700 block of Lynn Mar Avenue.
Harassment: A woman reported getting seven such calls while in the 8300 block of Hitchcock Road.
Sept. 30
Theft: A wallet was removed from a vehicle in the 4000 block of Hillman Way.
Menacing: Robert A. Mollica, 61, was arrested at his home, 138 Melrose Ave., Boardman, on an aggravated-menacing charge after a township man alleged Mollica had called threatening to kill him and a neighbor, causing the accuser to fear for his life.
Domestic violence: Officers picked up 47-year-old David W. Tassian, 3942 Euclid Blvd., Youngstown, in the 500 block of Boardman-Poland Road. Tassian was wanted on a warrant charging him with making domestic-violence threats.
Oct. 1
Weapon: Shaun X. Cook, 26, of 124 Hillcrest Ave., Hubbard, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing official business as police investigated two suspicious people on Baymar Drive. Cook had a tire wrench in his pocket and initially refused to remove his hand from his pocket, a report showed.
Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Hillman Way woman reported an independent mechanic never returned her vehicle after the accuser had taken the car to him for repairs to its transmission.
Theft: A man took a $279 time clock from Staples, 1260 Doral Drive.
Robbery: A Youngstown boy, 15, faced a robbery charge after being accused of stealing two pairs of jeans from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall, then pushing and striking an employee while fleeing from an office after having been detained.
Aggravated meancing: A Ferncliff Avenue man told police another man implied he would shoot him in the head when he asked the man to stop sending unwanted text messages to the accuser’s fiancee.
Harassment: A Forest Park Drive boy reported receiving harassing Facebook messages.
Vandalism: The catalytic converter was removed from a car at a Market Street auto-repair shop.
Domestic violence: Authorities booked a township boy, 16, on a domestic-violence charge after his mother alleged the teen had slapped her face during an argument. The mother had no visible injuries, however.
Theft: A 16-year-old Youngstown boy was charged with stealing an Xbox 360 game and a ski mask from Walmart, then released to the custody of his father.
Domestic violence: Brandon M. Butler, 19, of Aliquippa, Pa., was charged with making domestic-violence threats after his former girlfriend, of Cover Drive, reported having received numerous unwanted calls and voice-mail messages, including three threats to kill her and beat her up.
Misuse of a credit card: An employee with Boardman High School, 7777 Glenwood Ave., learned that two unauthorized online purchases had been made with his debit card.
Oct. 2
Thef by deception: An elderly Boardman Boulevard woman told police of having been pressured to provide a caller with her credit-card information in return for $2,500. The victim later received a letter with a receipt showing a $690 charge to her credit card.
Vandalism: A front window was smashed at Cinema South Inc., 7420 South Ave.
Theft: Four women stole 10 to 15 Halloween costumes from Party Max, 445 Boardman-Poland Road.
Menacing: A Youngstown woman said a customer threatened her while she was in a check-out lane at a South Avenue grocery store.
Possible theft: A Stratford Road woman said she thought someone had found but failed to return her lost parrot.
Vandalism: A front window was broken at the former Dunkin’ Donuts site, 6041 Market St.
Fraud: A woman discovered unauthorized purchases were made with her stolen credit card after having patronized a Doral Drive business.
Theft/vandalism: Someone removed the catalytic converters from five vehicles at JD Byrider, 7871 Market St. The loss came to $1,500.
