Canfield golf, tennis advance

With 333 team strokes, the Canfield girls golf team placed second at Monday’s sectional golf tournament held at Tamer Win Golf and Country Club.

Michele Whiteleather led the Cardinals with an 80, while Christina Cooper shot an 81. Liana Tucci added an 83. Olivia DeMartino and Kerra Loomis also participated for Canfield shooting 89 and 92, respectively.

Notre Dame Cathedral Latin won the tournament with a 326, Howland was fourth with a 356. Fitch and Boardman finished eigth and ninth. Angelica Maggio paced the Tigers with an 83.

At the boys sectional at Candywood, Canfield’s Dom Carano qualified for districts shooting a 74.

In Canton, Allison Pavlanksy won her first three matches at the girls tennis sectional. The Cardinals doubles team of Paige Zwicker and Stephanie Carrocce is still alive, as well, winning three times on Monday.
