An allegation of attempted rape may have led to a 21-year-old Youngstown man being shot Sunday night.
Police were called to the 300 block of East Avondale Avenue just before 11 p.m. for a shooting. The East Avondale Avenue man was not cooperative with investigating police, but a female witness inside the house told offices what had taken place.
The woman said she was inside the home when she heard about seven people outside arguing with the victim, several men and one female.
She said all the men were wearing latex gloves.
The witness told police the arguing continued until the female said they should just shoot him, and someone shot the man in his crotch.
The witness said the woman was at the house earlier that day arguing with the victim at which time she slapped him across the face.
The witness said the woman had made allegations about the victim attempting to rape her, which led to the arguing and shooting.
Police found the man sitting on a toilet inside the house without pants. When asked if he had been shot, he made it very clear he had been shot in the crotch.
The victim was taken into surgery early Monday morning.
There is no word on his condition, but he was talking and able to speak with police.
