McDonald mayor to lead transit board

WARREN

Glenn Holmes, mayor of McDonald, has been appointed chairman of the Trumbull Transit Board, replacing James Floyd, who resigned from the board.

Floyd was appointed to the transit board on Aug. 31, 2011.

The transit board was formed in 2011 to oversee operations of the county’s public transportation service, which Trumbull County commissioners took over after the city of Niles decided it could no longer run the countywide service it used to run, Niles-Trumbull Transit.

Last week, commissioners turned over the $1 million worth of transportation services offered by the Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services and $600,000 in transportation offered by the county’s Office of Elderly Affairs to the Trumbull Transit Service.

The move was done to increase efficiencies and allow the county to keep about $690,000 in Federal Transit Administration funding the county received in 2012.

Floyd, an attorney, also is a member of the Western Reserve Port Authority, which runs the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport and conducts economic development.
