Excited students flooded the Scholastic book fair at Lynn Kirk Elementary School Nov. 20 to purchase new finds, like the Avengers, and old favorites, such as the Harry Potter series or Twilight.
Books weren’t the only goodies that Lynn Kirk students could purchase. Many students opted to look at posters of their favorite sports stars, musicians or celebrities while still others sought out the counters full of unique pens and pencils, rulers, markers, highlighters, notebooks, stickers and more.
Over the course of two days, students had the opportunity to select books and other items they would like to purchase. If students forgot their money on the first day, there was the option to come back the next day at recess to get what they wanted.
“We do two Scholastic book fairs a year and the kids always love them,” said Lynn Kirk’s PTA chair for this event, Tammy Wilt. “The biggest challenge is gathering parent volunteers to come help out. It takes about a month to get all the people we need. Other than that, Scholastic makes this process pretty easy.”
Scholastic book fairs are one of the many ways that school systems both to raise money for their PTA organizations, and encourage interest and love of reading in children at a young age.
